2010 Annual Show Friday, March 19 and Saturday, March 20, 7:30 PM at the Cuyahoga Falls High School Theatre

Down on the corner, just hanging around, we all had our favorite songs popular in our day. We even hummed or whistled traditional songs from earlier days. Any way you look at it, this is a show for the whole family sure to evoke fond recollections. Join us for our 63rd Annual Show Master of Ceremonies: Tom Gentry Tom Gentry is an international barbershop performer, past music category specialist for the Barbershop Harmony Society and a music arranger for more than 40 years. Gentry’s wonderful wit, vibrant personality and warm heart make him a unique talent and highly engaging emcee. Gentry is also a sought-after musical arranger and has coached and judged barbershop events worldwide. Special Guest Quartets: Our Town 2008 NED Champions & Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Champions Our Town, the show headliner, features men with championship ranking in the Barbershop Harmony Society and a cappella circles. Our Town won the prestigious Harmony Sweepstakes (America’s oldest a cappella competition) and Barbershop Harmony Society Northeastern Districts’ competition in 2008.
Known for their “big sound” and pure style of harmony, Our Town recently appeared at the iconic New York City nightclub, Birdland. The quartet sings familiar songs for the enjoyment of varying audiences – from college students to traditional song buffs – and boasts a repertoire reflective of musical tastes ranging from contemporary up-tunes to nostalgic ballads. and Bustin' Loose 1984 JAD Champions Bustin’ Loose, another show headliner, features a past international champion tenor and three other members who have sung with acclaim. The quartet in 1984 won the extremely competitive Johnny Appleseed District award, one of only 16 U.S. districts. For eight successive years the group sang together, then went separate ways until regrouping late last decade – and has been entertaining audiences since. As always, the full membership of the Akron Derbytown Chorus will take the stage singing traditional barbershop harmony. In addition, the newly formed Gospel Chorus, organized to sing gospel songs in the barbershop style, will be introduced. |
